Sonic Solutions' DVDit! Is Bundled
With Sony's VAIO PC Line
Sony Becomes First PC Manufacturer to Offer Complete Video Capture,
Editing and DVD Publishing on a PC
Novato, California (May 23, 2000) - Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ:
SNIC)
announced today that electronics giant Sony Corporation has
decided to bundle Sonic's DVDit! with its VAIO PC lines.
Sony will bundle Sonic DVDit! LE with its latest line of powerful
VAIOÙ desktop computers in Japan and around the globe. With
the inclusion of DVDit!, Sony is the first PC manufacturer to
provide end-to-end video capture, editing and publishing on
DVD on a consumer-level PC.
"We're extremely pleased that Sony is including DVDit! with
VAIO," said Bob Doris, President of Sonic. "With the combination
of VAIO and DVDit!, Sony will continue to lead the industry,
enabling consumers to create their own interactive videos and
entertainment", said Koki D. Terui, Sonic's Vice President of
Pacific Rim Operations.
Sony unveiled the new Vaio products last week in Tokyo and announced
that it aims to double shipments of its popular personal computers
in the current fiscal year. The new Vaio models are rich with
multimedia capabilities such as built-in digital cameras, and
Memory Stick devices that allow video and audio files to be
easily moved between video cameras and the Vaio. Sonic DVDit!
LE will be bundled with the Vaio PCV-R73K and PCV-R63K series,
allowing users to edit DV video from their camcorders and, using
Sonic DVDit!, author and publish their own videos on DVD. The
new Vaio series will begin shipping on June 10 in Japan. The
DVD-Video format is the fastest growing consumer electronics
format in history. With over 8 million DVD set-top players and
over 30 million DVD-equipped PCs in the market today, DVD is
rapidly replacing tape as the video publishing format of choice
for video professionals and video enthusiasts.
With Sonic DVDit!, VAIO users can drag and drop their DV video
files into the DVDit! authoring application and then build menus
and interactivity. Once authoring is complete, DVDit! uses Sony's
high-speed DV-to-MPEG-2 video transcoder to convert source DV
content to high-quality MPEG-2 video for DVD. DVDit! then records
the final DVD content to CD-R or other removable media for playback
on PCs. DVDit! can also directly write to DVD-R for discs that
play in set-top consumer DVD players.
About Sonic DVDit!
Sonic DVDit! is the easiest way to publish on DVD. Combining
a simple user interface with Sonic's award-winning DVD formatting
technology, DVDit! gives video professionals, graphic designers,
artists and video enthusiasts the power to create stunning interactive
DVD content on their PC. DVDit! is available in three editions:
LE ("Limited Edition") - designed for bundling with compatible
products; SE ("Standard Edition") - including comprehensive
support of the DVD feature set; and PE ("Professional Edition,"
available in June 2000) - designed to address the needs of professional
DVD publishers.
DVDit! is compatible with AVI and QuickTime video files, so
that virtually any video content - from DV to D1 - can be converted
into a DVDit! project. With an intuitive interface, building
DVD titles is as easy as selecting a menu background and then
dragging and dropping an AVI, QuickTime or MPEG-2 video file
into DVD. DVDit! automatically builds buttons and interactivity,
multiplexes and formats content, and records to CD-R or DVD-R
for playback in consumer set-top DVD players or DVD-equipped
PCs.
