Sonic Solutions Sales of MyDVD™ and DVDit!™ Top One Million

Consumer Interest in DVD Authoring Expands As New DVD-Recorders Hit Market

Marin County, California (July 11, 2001)
Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ: SNIC) announced today that sales of Sonic¹s desktop DVD publishing applications DVDit! and MyDVD have topped the one million unit mark, coming less than three months after they reached the 500,000 mark. The latest million-unit milestone demonstrates the strong interest in affordable, easy-to-use solutions for creating DVDs and further establishes Sonic as the leading provider of DVD authoring applications.

"With the new, lower-cost DVD recorders hitting the market, consumer interest in personal DVD video publishing is about to jump dramatically," said James Manning, Product Marketing Manager for Consumer DVD Products at Sonic. "DVD recorders are to video as CD recorders have been to music, and Sonic is the best positioned to take advantage of this new explosion in consumer video."

Sonic will be the exclusive supplier of DVD-Video authoring software for HP¹s new DVD Writers that are expected to ship late this summer; Sonic MyDVD is also included with Pioneer¹s new line of DVD recorders; and DVDit! and MyDVD are bundled with products from other leading PC and video manufacturers including Avid, Compaq, Media 100, Matrox, NEC, Panasonic, Pioneer, Sony and more.

"Sonic DVDit! is so easy to use that I was able to begin authoring my own titles right after opening the box," said Wayne White, Project Manager of the Visual Communications Center at Sprint. "With DVDit! I¹m able to produce DVD titles with exceptional quality. The software works with all of my video formats, and it lets me make better projects in less time."

Sonic DVDit! and MyDVD make it easy for home users and video enthusiasts to create stunning interactive DVD content on their PCs. With the ability to simply drag-and-drop video and audio into the application, design interactive menus and record the final content to DVD+RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD-RAM or CD-R/RW, Sonic DVDit! and MyDVD are being used by video enthusiasts worldwide to create high-quality DVD versions of their movies and video projects.
